Chronic Illness · Children & Teens · North York & Oakville
The goal was never just to manage it. It was to live fully alongside it.
Your child is more than their diagnosis. So is your family.
When illness becomes part of daily life, the emotional weight of it is real, and it deserves the same care and attention as the medical side. At Whole Kids Health, we work with children, teens, parents, and siblings because a diagnosis never lands on just one person. North York, Oakville, and across Ontario.
What we hear from families
You are managing so much. Here is what that can look like.
Chronic illness touches every member of a family, often in different ways and at different times. What one person carries quietly, another carries loudly. All of it is real.
Your child may be navigating
- Fear or anxiety about their body and what comes next
- Feeling different from friends or left out of things they used to do
- Frustration, grief, or anger about what their diagnosis means for daily life
- Difficulty talking about how they feel about being unwell
- Worry about being a burden to the people they love
- Shifts in identity, especially during adolescence
Your family may be navigating
- A parent trying to stay steady while carrying something heavy
- Siblings who do not know where to put what they are feeling
- A parent whose own illness is shaping the family's daily life
- Tension between wanting to protect and wanting to prepare
- Appointments, decisions, and uncertainty all at once
- The emotional weight that does not show up on any chart
What we know
The body and the mind have never been separate. That is how we practice.
Living with a chronic condition means navigating more than appointments and treatment plans. It means figuring out who you are when your body is part of the story. What you are capable of. What you want your life to hold. How to stay connected to yourself through all of it.
That is not a side issue. It is some of the most important work a child can do.
Our team was built on health psychology. We understand how physical health and emotional wellbeing shape each other, and we work alongside the medical teams already in your child's life to make sure the whole picture is held.
A team built on this. Not added to it.
Why Whole Kids Health
When a child is living with a chronic condition, the psychological support they need is specific. It requires clinicians who understand both sides of the picture. That is what every person on our team brings.
Foundation
Health psychology is our foundation
It was not added to our practice later. It is the reason Whole Kids Health exists. Every clinician on our team understands the relationship between physical health and emotional wellbeing.
Experience
We have worked across conditions
Diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, autoimmune conditions, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genetic. Our team brings direct clinical experience across the conditions families are actually navigating.
Whole Family
We see the whole family
The child with the diagnosis. The sibling processing it from the outside. The parent holding it all together. We support all of them because illness never lands on just one person.
Collaboration
We work alongside your medical team
We are not a replacement for the care your child is already receiving. We are a partner in it. Our team communicates with physicians and specialists when it serves your family.
Three ways in. One goal.
What we offer
Every family navigating chronic illness finds their way to support differently. We meet you where you are and help you figure out where to start.
Therapy
Individual Therapy
For the child or teen navigating what it means to live in a body that requires extra care. Therapy helps them process what they are feeling, build resilience, and stay connected to who they are beyond their diagnosis.

How it works
Getting started does not have to feel complicated. When you reach out, our intake team takes care of the matching so your family is connected to the right clinician from the start.
Step 01
Tell us about your child.
A brief intake so we understand the full picture. What your child is living with, how it is affecting them, and what your family needs right now.
Step 02
Meet your clinician.
We match based on your child's age, diagnosis, and what your family is navigating. North York, Oakville, or virtually across Ontario.
Step 03
Build a plan together.
Your clinician works to understand the full picture, the medical context, the emotional experience, and what support looks like for your specific child and family.
Step 04
Keep going.
We stay alongside your family as things shift. Illness is not static, and neither is the support. We adjust as your child grows and as what they need changes.
Children are remarkably capable of finding their footing. Our job is to make sure they have somewhere solid to stand.
Ready when you are
You have been managing the medical side. We can help with the rest.
Reach out and we will send you our intake form. From there, our team matches your family with the right clinician and goes from there.
